I have been meaning to come here and chat about my sewing projects but a lot has been going on.

We had another storm, and last Tuesday at noon or power went out and remained out until Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. our house got really cold. It's surprisingly difficult to focus even on things that can be done without power while the power is out. So my week has been disrupted.

Meanwhile my family has been having various medical issues my mother fell and now the chip in her humerus. Unfortunately she's in a lot of pain.

And my mother-in-law had a tooth extracted and is slowly recovering. She's on a soft food diet right now.

But I want to give you a quick sewing you update anyways. I finished the short sleeved top I was working on. And cut out another one which I haven't started sewing yet. And I have made a little bit of progress with one of the baby quotes I'm working on piecing. Plus the kid has wanted to do some small projects. We made a quilt and are working on some pillows for her stuffies. It continues to be slow going but satisfying.

Well December is over, time to look at how I did at my goals for the month.

1)Write fic or Lady Business posts on 15 days.
Nope only 9 days. Once I posted Suibain Reads I really wasn't feeling inspired to write more fic and the last part of the month was hectic

2) Finish the second shirt
Done! (Picture via Instagram)

3) Sew some reusable gift bags
Also Done!(Picture via Instagram)

4) Rec a thing everyday
Done, check out my #DecRecs tag to see what I recced

5) Winter Break and Winter Holidays
Today is New Years (observed) and tomorrow the kid goes back to school. Break has been a lot of people being sick, but we did mange a few outside expeditions, and a couple of gatherings. I had people over for latkes twice, and we also did some Christmas stuff with family

6) Finish the intro section in An Introduction to Literary Chinese
Nope. I manged to finish lesson 7, but I got very stuck on lesson 8 and decided to take a break until I am a bit better rested.

In December at least one member of my household was sick everyday of the month. It was exhausting even though I myself wasn't sick very much. So starting the new year feeling rather blagh

I'd normally write up some goals for the coming month here, but I'm feeling overwhelemed. The last couple of months I've been struggling with setting right sized goals. So I'm going to not post any goals for this month an see how I feel about it.
forestofglory: E. H. Shepard drawing of Christopher Robin and Pooh floating in a upturned umbrella , with the word Ahoy in the corner (The Brain of Pooh)
This week I've been trying to finish up as many of my monthly goals as possible while also not overdoing things with my wrist. It's a *fun* balancing act. On Tuesday I realized that I would be happier if finished at least some of the goals rather than having them all almost done. I so I decided to focus on the easiest to finish goal and do that when my wrist allows, and then the next easiest, and so on an so forth. I've manged two goals this way, I'm not sure that I'll finish any of the others, but I do feel better about things.

Tomorrow I'm taking the kid on her first ever camping trip. She's so excited! I have not been camping in years, so I asked a friend who goes camping a lot to help us out. We are going car camping pretty close to where we live, so if things go wrong we will have the option to go home.

So I've been trying not to use my right hand for the last week and a half. Here's a couple notes on that's going.

* I have declared comment amantisty on DW. I hit the mark all read button on my inbox. There where some things there that I really wanted to get to but I just can't right now.

*I've been writing my daily to do lists with my left hand. I think my hand writing has gotten a little bit better.

*R found me a one handed cutting board with some ways to hold what you are cutting! I still can't do much but I've cut up a couple of peaches now.

*Last Friday I had a small fall and put wiegth on my wrist. So dispite all my resting it's been hurting more since then. I might have do an extra week of rest. It's very discouraging

*I can't drive which makes it harder to take the kid places, but a couple of times now R has dropped us off at a park. So I've gotten to do some outings.

I’m very much a creature of habit, I like to have a routine and stick with it. At the moment part of my routine is going on a walk everyday. I’m also very repetitive about the walks that I go on. I have two regular routes and I rarely vary them. Walking the same routes all the time is a bit meditative and I like not having to think about where I’m going. I can put my brain on autopilot and think about all kinds of things. I like walking by the same gardens frequently and seeing how they change.Walks are good for thinking, but sometimes instead of letting my mind wander I listen to a podcast.

One route is a bit longer than the other, and I decide which route to take based on factors like how much energy I have, how cold it is, and how much time I have. Living in the hills means no flat places to walk, and both routes have a fair amount of ups and downs. Living in the hills also means some great views, and there are several spots where I can stop on a clear day and look out over the bay and the city and the golden gate bridge.
forestofglory: hot water being poured over tea leaves (Tea)
I’ve taken to scheduling myself a weekly tea and Classical Chinese study date. It’s good to have some scheduled time for this.

Most of the time when I drink tea I just make a big mug of tea, and drink that at my computer, while I read the internet. If I’m feeling more fancy I’ll make the tea in one of my small teapots instead and drink it out of a fancy teacup.

But for my tea dates I will get out my tea tray, gawain and tea pets. (I have two little rabbits now a while on call Bao and a dark gray one called Sesame) I take the sewing machine off its usual table to make space. Then I move the kettle out of the tea corner where it generally lives, and bring it to the table. It’s a good set up that feels a bit special.

For studying I try to do something that takes a bit of focus that I might not get to. It's a good time to practice my handwriting, or work on writing out a translation from the text book I’m studying. But sometimes I also use one of my study apps.

I really like this practice. It gives me some time to make tea in a way that requires more focus, and it also gives my language study more structure which is very helpful since it is all self directed.
forestofglory: Zhao Yunlan offering Shen Wei meat on a stick (吃吧 (chi ba) and is an offer of food, something like "eat this, please.") (feeding people)
I've come to the the conclusion that I don't epecailly like cooking, but I really like feeding people. So this I was very happy that this Thanksgiving it was safe enough to invite local family to celebrate. When I moved back to the Bay Area after grad school I took over Thanksgiving. This was not a discussion, I just told my mom that I was in charge. This year we had nine people totally.

I cooked all day, with plenty of breaks. Kitchen help and child care provided by R and my brother. The kid also "helped out" with some of the cooking. She helped cut up bread for the stuffing and peeled potatoes! I was a little bit sick, but so so happy to get to have big family dinner.

And soon it will be Hanukkah and I will fry things in oil and feed them to more people!

Teaware

Oct. 18th, 2021 08:49 am
forestofglory: hot water being poured over tea leaves (Tea)
A while back I wrote about how I was enjoying learning more about and tasting Chinese styles of tea. Since then I’ve also started collecting teaware.

I started with a pair of tea cups from
Tenmokus which I hesitated to buy because they are expensive and I have been known to drop things. But I really love them. They are gorgeous and make tea even more pleasant.

But I realize my fancy cups would work better if I had a teapot to pour from. So to celebrate finishing “Can’t Stop Thinking of That Far Road” I bought myself a 12oz teapot with dragons on it. It’s so small and cute!

Since then I’ve slowly added to my collection. I’ve bought several more tea cups, and been gifted another small teapot, with bunnies! None of my cups match my teapots, but its fun to mix and match.

More recently I’ve been trying to do proper gong fu tea. I have acquired a gawain and tea tray, (and have ordered a fairness cup). I find that this takes more focus to do things properly than I want most of the time, but I’ve started scheduling some times to make gong fu tea and work on my Classical Chinese.

Tea feels like a frivolous hobby, but I like owning pretty things, and I like drinking hot beverages. I use my nice tea things often and they make me happy.

Changes

forestofglory: a white barked multi-trunked tree (Photo taken on the highline in NYC) (Tree)
In the last week I have done so many things that I had not done in ages and ages! It was overwhelming actually. As of Tuesday I am fully vaccinated! Along with all the adults in my household and my parents household. (My brother lives with my parents). We are extremely lucky to have access to the vaccines.

Wednesday my friend M came over after work. She was able to come into the house and take her mask off! I got to show her my various sewing project and she got to hang out with the kid for a bit. Then we went out to dinner and ate outside and place with table service. The restaurant had taken over a couple of parking spaces outside, which where surrounded by a bright blue fence, and the pavement was covered in astroturf We got to eat bibimbop of real stone bowls! It was so good. I've had take out bibimbop a few times over the last year and its just not the same.

Friday I saw my cousins in person! My cousins on my dad's side where in town for a memorial and we decided to have little family gathering. We met up at my parents house and walked up to the shopping distinct near by with my brother and the kid. I actually went inside a bookstore. We bought the kid some ice cream and my cousins bought some wine. By the end out it I was actually in auditory overload mode, and when we got back I had to sit quietly by myself for a bit. But after that we had lovely dinner of Burmese takeout.

The on Saturday I went to children's birthday party which was held outside in a friends backyard. We all wore masks except while eating. My kid had a great time. There was treasure hunt with pirate themed treasure and pizza and cake and ice cream.

After more than a year of isolation this was all so much. It turns out that interacting with the built enviroment outside my house is just a lot. Things that wouldn't have been a bid deal before the pandemic felt like too much stimulation. I spent all of Sunday more or less in a fugue state to tired to really do anything at all. I

Well, we are have way through January 2021 so it time for a goals check in.

1) Write my 2020 in review posts
I'm making good progress on these so far I've posted about Non-fiction writing, fanfic writing, Outdoor finds, and reading. I've got one more about sewing coming some time next week.

2) Write two posts talking about what I've been observing in the built and natural environment around me
I'm counting "2020 in Review: Best Outdoor Finds" as the first of these

3) Read Five Online SFF shorts (Stretch goal: read or DNF all bookmarked stories form 2020, and finish Silk and Steel)
I've read two, and one story in Silk and Steel.

4)Sew two shirts for the kid
I've sewn most of one shirt so far. It's going a bit slower than I hoped but I have plenty of buffer built in

5) Sew Stripey baby quilt top
Done!

6)Write something fun!
No progress on this yet, maybe once I finish up the 2020 in review posts?

7) Take the cats to the vet
I have an appointment for them next Tuesday.

8)School Choice Form
This turned out to be more work then I thought. We have to resister entirely! It was so much work last year, but R very kindly volunteered to be point person for this. On the other hand ranking schools turned out to be easier that I thought? There where fewer schools to in our area than I thought, and R and I had a ten minute chat and agreed on our preferred order.

Well, this month has been a lot so far. In addition to national events we are still in a pretty high level of lockdown, and I've been feeling overwhelmed and out of focus. I'm doing surprisingly well at my goals though, managing to do a little bit every day at least. I hope you all are hanging in there!
forestofglory: hot water being poured over tea leaves (Tea)
So one result of my recent enjoyment of Chinese dramas is that I've been learning about and tasting more tea.

It started when I was working on my Guardian Food and Drink Project. Someone commented on one of my posts about it with a link to this the Tea House Ghost Youtube Chanel and I enjoyed those videos very much! But for a while that was all. Fancy tea is intimidating, its expensive and it seemed like you need a lot of special equipment.

However earlier this year I decided that rather than being sensible and finding some good surveys of Chinese history I was going to dive into the deep end with some very focused academic history books. And the first thing I read was Tea in China: A Religious and Cultural History by James A. Benn. Which I really adored.

So that got me to take a few more steps. I order a tea filter and a few samples of different Chinese style teas. The tea filter is just a mess basket that sits in my tea mug, and you put the leaves in there while the tea is brewing. I also started actually timing how long my tea brews for, which isn't as complicated as I thought. I can use the clock on my phone.

So the tea samples where very enjoyable, and I wrote a fic featuring a lot of tea, and read another book about the history of tea in China (The Rise of Tea Culture in China by Bret Hinsch) so I decided to order more tea. After asking around I ordered form TeaVivre I still wasn't sure what I liked so I ordered a bunch of sample packs and also some things that where on sale. It's been great to have lots of try.

So far I've learned that I really like pu-erh, and don't like oolong. (I sent the extra oolong to a good home). Not only is the pu-erh delicious but its relatively low fuss. I got a bunch of mini tuochas or tiny cakes of pressed tea so its all pre-measured. Unlike some of the other teas I have it brews with boiling water so I don't have to fussy with trying to cool the water down. Also it can be brewed many, many times!

With green teas I'm still figuring out what I like. I've enjoyed the dragon well tea I have now and the sample of Bi Luo Chun was very tasty too. The fact that I don't have precise control of the water temperature is making trying the green teas a bit more difficult. I have fancy kettle that does variable temperatures on my wish list, I'm hoping some one will give it to me for my birthday if not I will buy it for myself.

Tea is great! It has been lovely to learn more about the history of tea and also taste a lot of different teas. It is a bit complicated to do loose leaf tea, but its simpler than I thought. Do you have favorite teas? I'd love to hear about them!
forestofglory: a white barked multi-trunked tree (Photo taken on the highline in NYC) (Tree)
The days are so long now! It's light before I get up, and light well after the kid is supposed to be in bed. It's been effecting both of our sleep schedules, but not too badly.

We have been having many picnics lately. We get takeout from somewhere and eat in on a blanket in the park. It's so nice. It still keeps us socially distanced, but we get to eat restaurant food and get out of the house for a while. The Bay Area is still pretty locked down. Open air dinning is just starting to be a thing here.

There was one bad thing that happened on a picnic, the kid got her 1st bee sting! She must have just put her had down right on top of a bee. It was unpleasant experience for us all. We took her right home, and got her an ice pack to help with the swelling and she sat with one hand on the ice pack and played phone games with the other for long time. She recovered quickly and seemed fine now, but shes a bit wary of bees on our walks.

Since things are slightly opening up we have formed a social bubble with my parents and brother. Our social bubbles are very limited -- we can hang out together outside while masked. But I have now gone on several walks with my family, which has been lovely.

The kid still loves visiting the fish pond in our neighborhood. This week they have added about a dozen little fish to the pound, which is very exciting. Most of them are orange, but a few are black and one is white with orange spots.
forestofglory: patch work quilt featuring yellow 8 pointed stars on background of night sky fabrics (Quilt)
Bits an bobs is my many short unrelated things make a post category. Comments on any topic welcome, no need to comment on all of them.

*Our neighbor got some yeast form her daughter's restaurant and shared it with us! R made some yummy sandwich bread and I the kid and I made challah. We also got some bread and pastry for a local bakery. There was mix up and our order was ready to pick up on Friday instead of today, so for bit we where worried we would have too much bread! But we gave my mom a loaf of the challah an where able to freeze some of the other bread so none of it should go to waste.

*We have been taking the kid on some walks and such to try and get some of her energy out. Last Wednesday for Earth Day we went on a longer walk with some signs telling us about the native plants. It was nice, but the trail was super narrow it was hard to pass people.

*The weather here has been pretty nice. It was so rainy last month that everything is still very green! But except for the last few days which have been a bit too hot it has been pleasantly warm outside, which makes for especially lovely walks.

*I have gotten slightly further with the dress I'm sewing that uses a new pattern. I have printed out and taped together all the pieces! Meanwhile I have also cut out all the pieces for yet another quilt top -- yes I know I have three unfinished quilt tops, and I shouldn't really start another one. But I like making them so much. Sadly I don't like making the rest of the quilt as much as I like piece the tops, but I am making small amounts of progress towards finishing the others in that I have ordered fabric for backing, and batting. My local fabric store is doing curbside pick up!

*Yesterday was my mother's annual tea party. She has one every year to celebrate the anniversary of her cancer diagnosis. 23 years this year! We have whole menu that we do most years, scones, and ginger pound cake, and little sandwiches. Of course we couldn't do that this year. But I made some scones and my brother took some across town so he and my parents could have some. And we had Zoom call with lots of my mother's friends. It was nice that some far away people could join us, who normally wouldn't make it, but I still wished that I could feed everyone scones!
forestofglory: a bowl of ramen (Ramen)
I this morning I made cupcakes with N. We've been doing a lot of baking to keep busy. We made cake, and cookies and quick bread. I love baking with her, it so fun, but I don't generally do it. All the adults in the house are diabetic or at risk of diabetes so we try not to keep too many sweets around.

I enjoying cooking. It's nice to make physical things. When I was learning to cook and for a long time after I would always use a recipe. But now when I make dinner I rarely use a recipe -- or a use one I know by heart. Its nice just make things. I find a lot of cooking is knowing when things look, or taste or smell right. It makes it hard to explain things to other people, especially when they aren't there. But take say cooking an onion -- I know how to cut an onion from doing it so many times. I know what it should smell like cooking, and I know it always takes longer than recipes say it does, and know what it looks like when the onions are cooked. So things I can cook because I know them well are soothing but new recipes often stress me out.

But my favorite thing about cooking is feeding other people! I want to nourish people and give them yummy food. Sometimes this is a bit tricky -- right now everyone in my household is a bit picky and we all have different things we don't eat so finding meals for everyone is a bit less fun. I often struggle with meal planing, and sometimes when its my turn to make dinner I just don't feel very excited by what ever I'm cooking that evening. And I don't often have energy for really complicated stuff.

So I'm really enjoying this lock down baking. I don't have to plan it in advance, I can do it early in the day when I have energy, the kid enjoys doing it with me, its all pretty great.

I thought I should write an update about how I'm doing. cut for current events )
forestofglory: E. H. Shepard drawing of Christopher Robin reading a book to Pooh (Default)
Well its the middle of the month, so lets have goal update? Things have been very uncertain around here but I have been doing stuff.

1) Finish posting Hugo Rec (by close of nominations March 13)
Done! You can check my Hugo Awards tag to see all the recs. I glad I did these the 1st week of March because I would have felt frivolous posting them this last week.

2)Finish a draft of the current fic I'm writing
I am making slow but steady progress on this. I'm at almost 5k words and I think I'm over halfway done. I have a better idea of what is going to happen which is making the fic easier to write, its not going very fast but that's more because of current events than because I don't know what I'm doing.

3) read five online SFF shorts
No progress on this. Um and one have any recs for extra cosy pro shorts? I'm struggling to focus on reading anything that's not fic.

4) Finish the shirt that I cut out last month
This coming along. I've got it into a basically shirt-like shape now, so I should be able to finish no problem.

5) Finish the quilt top for my friends' wedding present
Done! Pictures via Instagram

6) FOGcon!
Gosh, was this only a week ago? The con was fun! It was good to see my con friends, and talk to people about books. Everyone was bit anxious at the con but it was nice. I also enjoyed having a few kid free mornings.

Well, things are pretty hectic around here. Preschool is closes until at least April 5. So although at the beginning of the month I thought I might want add a goal at the midmonth check in I am not going do so. Things are very up in the air right now an I don't want to add more commitments.

Currently I'm doing quite a bit of sewing, I find that much easier to focus on then writing right now. So in addition to the projects mention above I've cut out another shirt and have started planning a baby quilt, including shopping for some fabric online this morning.

Stay safe and take care of yourselves everyone!
forestofglory: E. H. Shepard drawing of Christopher Robin reading a book to Pooh (Default)
Well we are now halfway through February so it's time for another goals update.

1) Post some Hugo recs
I have gotten started on this over the last week. I hope to post a few more categories before the end of the month.

2) Read or DNF all the 2019 short SFF I have bookmarked
I'm making progress on this! Despite having added a bunch more stories to the list, I think I now have fewer to-read 2019 stories that I did at the start of the month. I've also read a couple of the novellas I had on my ereader, though I have a acquired a few more. Plus I have two on hold at the library.

3) Write at least one sentence about nature or the built enviroment everyday
So far so good. I was secretly hoping that doing this would inspire me to want to write something longer on these topics and so far that hasn't happened. But its nice to write about this stuff without worrying about other people reading it. When I try to write something people will see I always get so tangled up in not knowing what is common knowledge and what I need to explain.

4) Finish the shirt I'm sewing and cut out another one
I have finished the shirt except for the buttons and button holes. I got some really cute rabbit shaped buttons but now I have to figure out what size to make the button holes and its a pain so I haven't sewn in a few days.

5)Finish School Enrollment Paperwork
I did this! It was epic. I need so many forms and profs of address. Then I had to go in person during business hours. A lawyer friend called the process "unreasonable and burdensome" when I told her about it. However its done now and I don't have to do anything until June.

6) Enjoy the long weekend where R will be at a con and my cousin and her family will be in town visiting
This is starting today. R is heading out for his con this afternoon and getting back Monday. My cousins will be showing up tomorrow. I am looking forwards to seeing them! I expect I'll need to go flop for a bit on Tuesday though.

7) Book flights to WisCon!
No progress on this one. But I still have two weeks so hopefully soon.

Well I feel pretty good about how I am doing with all of these goals. It's nice for me to have these check ins so I can see concretely that I am getting stuff done. Otherwise I just feel like I'm not doing anything with my time. (Of course theirs the other part of my brain that's like you can't post about how much you are getting done that would be boasting. Sometimes my brain is a jerk but I'm working on doing stuff anyways.)

How is your month going so far?
forestofglory: patch work quilt featuring yellow 8 pointed stars on background of night sky fabrics (Quilt)
Bits an bobs is my many short unrelated things make a post category. Comments on any topic welcome, no need to comment on all of them.

*I have been putting the holiday cards I've received on a shelf near my desk and I love looking at them. If you sent one thank you! There's quite a few form people who I know online, and a few from other friends and some form R's friends. E has her own collection elsewhere. So far I have a unicorn, and dog and his boy, tulips, Santa Yoda, a cute cow, and polar bears.

*Yesterday was winter solstice here. I'm so glad the days will be getting longer. We didn't really do anything to celebrate, but we did have discussion of orbital mechanics.

*I'm finding the discourse around the new Star Wars film exhausting. I'm not planning to see it soon and I'm not trying to avoid spoilers, but I've got to the point where I just don't care any more. I have complex feeling about Star Wars anyways. I was very into it as young teen, and it was therefore one of the first media properties that I started applying a feminist critical lens to, so I always associate it will my dawning realization of just how badly women are portrayed in media.

*Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah, our household has four menorahs, the one that the kid made in preschool this year, the one she made last year and two that where wedding gifts. E wants to light all of them. I think its a bit much and would be happy with just one, but four will probably be nice too.

*I have plans to do social things every day between today and Friday and its kind of a lot. Most of them are with family so it really can't be helped. I have tried to set the rest of my goals for the week quite low to try and make sure I take some down time.

* I went and played around with making some more icons. Still just using the very basic tools on my computer. About half of these are based on my photos including some of more of quilts I made. And the other half are A-Yuan the adorable turnip baby from The Untamed.

*It has been raining since Thanksgiving, and everyone in my household expect me has been sick with a bad cold. The kid stayed home on Monday (which is a work day for me) but was well enough to go to preschool yesterday and today. However this morning she slept in almost and hour and was late to school.

*Many of my internet pals have offered to send holiday cards and I have signed up for a lot of them. I'm excited that I will be getting mail, though I feel a little bad that I'm not sending anyone anything. I am however pleased that I realized I can used some of the space I created by getting rid of books that I'm not friends with to display all my holiday cards. I now have a nice empty shelf waiting.

*I have stared reading Winnie-the-Pooh to my kid! As you might have gathered form my icons, I'm very fond of Winnie-the-Pooh, and its lovely to share something something I love with my kid. Also rereading the stories again, I'm charmed once again by the characters and the the prose.

*I have been meaning to upgrade to a paid account for ages, and I finally did it yesterday since the sale announcement reminded me. I'm not sure if I will actually use any of the paid features, but I'm happy to give DW some money. Maybe I will go upload some more icons? I have been remembering to use different icons for posts and comments slightly more recently and it might be nice to have a few more. Anyone have recommendations for places to find icons?

*I forgot to say but the power came back on Monday afternoon last week, and has been on since!

*My library has Link+, the state wide ILL system, back! I have order a couple of things! Its very exciting!

*In other library news the new catalog seems to be having some difficultly with mulit-volume manga. I have been requesting that the library buy things recently, and they've bought basically everything I asked for. (My library is pretty great) One of these was the slice of life manga Barakamon. The library bought more volumes than I requested, which was nice, but then I tried put a hold on some of them and found out that the system won't let me. Also the online catalog currently doesn't distinguish between volumes -- so all the volumes I currently have check out or have holds on look the same. So that's a bit frustrating.

*My parents are traveling and having their floors done while they are gone. This means my brother, who lives with them has been over a lot. Which is nice. I like hang out with him and he's been helping out with childcare too. He'll be staying over a couple of night as well.

*Our Halloween was good! The air was not bad and we went trick-or-treating with the kid. In the end she decided to go as rainbow kitty astronaut and wore the hat with ears that I made.

*I have been reading some kidfic, fanfic where the characters take care of kids, and I have come to the conclusion that most of it is about the fantasy of having really good parents, and not about the reality or even the fantasy of being a parent. No one is ever up in the middle of the night covered in vomit, or spends half a hour talking a kid into leaving the house, or worries that they said the wrong things. Parents and children are all just pretty great all the time. I see why that's appealing, especially if one had rough childhood. Still I'm frustrated that I can't find stories about parenthood, especially motherhood, that are about that kind of thing that don't feel cheesy. Maybe I'm just too picky

*The other day some friend and I where chatting about why we keep books, and some one said "books are my friends" So this morning I looks through my shelves and asked myself "Is this book my friend?" And I got rid of a lot of books! And I kept a lot of books too, but I feel good about having them because they are friends!
