forestofglory: Cup of tea on a pile of books (books)
The American Dream? a Journey on Route 66 Discovering Dinosaur Statues, Muffler Man, and the Perfect Breakfast Burrito: a Graphic Memoir by Shing Yin Khor This was really good! I loved the watercolor art style. The story was a blending the profound and the absurd. The author is an immigrant from Malaysia who had lived in LA for years before this road trip and they managed to touch on a lot of important topics, like race and home. But also to cover a lot of the wackiness of roadside attractions and the travelers viewing them. (content note: brief mentions of genicide)

Because Internet: Understanding the New Rules of Language by Gretchen McCulloch This was fantastic! Really interesting subject matter, and written in a witty and accessible style. I feel like learned a lot and also like I’m going to be a bit more comfortable using internet slang now.

The Untamed eps 24- 43 I’m enjoying this so much! It's hard for me to talk about middles of things but this very enjoyable! I have many siblings feelings, also some shippy feelings. Everything is very pretty and swooshy still.

On thing that’s kinda bugging me is that they’ve started putting little adds with the characters consuming modern products. The ads are pretty cute actually -- one of them has bunnies. But they keep showing up at tense or antsy moments and disrupting my mood.

About half my twitter timeline is also watching this and it's really fun. I never watch things socially and its awesome that so many people want to talk about. Its also a little confusing because different people are at different places. Some people are ahead of me and some are behind so I have to be careful about spoilers in both directions. (I’ve read the novel so I’m okay with mild spoilers aways.) (content note:gore, zombies)

Kaleidotrope: A Queer Fanish Rom Com Instead of continuing with either of the fiction podcast I mentioned last post I started another new one. There’s just ten episodes of this all about 30 mins long and I listened to them all. Its a cute rom com and its pretty good for tried communing. The premise is that it college radio text in advice show. The two hosts start of not liking each other but fall in love. They also give advice to people dealing with tropes, like fake dating, drinking truth serums, and flirting with baristas. It's very silly and there's lots of cute banter.

To Write Like a Woman: Essays in Feminism and Science Fiction by Joanna Russ I liked the second half more than the 1st. This part was much more focused on women, especially queer women, in popular culture, and I found serval parts insightful.

Nirvana in Fire I’m not quite sure what episode we are up to somewhere in the late 20s. Still watching this slowly with R. Still very good.

Silver Spoon vols 1-9 by Hiromu Arakawa. Volumes 1-4 where rereads. This manga about a city kid who goes to an agricultural school to get away from his family is very, very, good! There’s a lot about making friends, learning about agriculture, and thinking about one's vocation in here. (content note: fatphobia, industrial agriculture, animal death)
