I forgot to post one of these last week. Sorry!

Eating/Making: I'm combining these category today because its Thanksgiving. I'm hosting we are having a relativly small gathering of ten people. Here's the menu: roast turkey (of course), stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potato gratin, roman style broccoli, corn bread muffins, cole slaw (made by R), green beans (made by E), pickled beets, pumpkin cheesecake and fudge pie. (those last three made by my mom. Who also might make something with squash.) It's a busy day.

Reading: I've been stressing out about the fact that best of 2017 list are starting to appear, and there is so much 2017 work I still want to read. I was reflecting on my reading experiences this year and I realized that I've let fear of missing out make reading less fun than it should be. So I'm trying to dial back and worry less about reading all the 2017 books before Hugo nominations. Anyways I set up my library que before I had this realization so I'll be reading some 2017 books for the next bit anyways.

Recent Reads: Keeper of the Dawn by Dianna Gunn, An Oath of Dogs by Wendy N. Wagner, Temporary Duty Assignment by A.E. Ash, Spill Zone by Scott Westerfeld et al.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Eating: I've been sick this week so I've been drinking endless cups of ginger tea. Also we went out to Chinese for lunch the other day an I had big bowl of chicken noodle soup. Great food for recovering.

Reading: Being sick has decreased my focus but I did reread "The Dark Lord of Derkholm" which I had forgotten the plot of --but the characters where just a wonderful as I remembered. Oh and now that I'm on the mend I started Crossroads of Canopy by Thoraiya Dyer which I'm enjoying so far.

Making: Be doing a pit of piecing for a quilt I've been working on for a long time. I sew a few blocks a month an then go work on another project. But someday my friend will have a nice lap quilt with chickens on it.

Eating: I made spinach mushroom frittata for dinner last night and I thought it came out yummy.

Reading:I started reading the Princeless comics last week, and should be getting more form the library today. Its a cute comic about a Princess who rescues herself and is now out to rescues her sisters. Her dad is awful though -- he's locked up all his daughters so that men will come rescue them so he'll have a strong male heir. Anyways there seem to be a bunch of recent comics aimed at younger readers that subvert Princess tropes.

Making: I finished the dress. I'm not sure if I like the way the sleeves fit, but I'm going to need someone to help me button up the back to me sure. I hope it fits ok because it represents a lot of time and money

In other news everyone but me and the toddler is sick in my house and I've been doing a lot of toddler care and not much else the last couple of days.

Eating: I tried a new recipe last night: mushroom marsala pasta bake I used sherry instead of marsala because sherry is something we keep around and marsala isn't. Anyways I thought it came out super tasty so I was pleased with it. I've been realizing that part of why I'm having trouble finding new things to cook is that my household has a lot of conflicting dietary needs and preferences.

Reading: I recently finished Heroine Complex by Sarah Kuhn, which was very charming. A good thing to read when I needed some cheering up.

Making: Still working on the dress for me. Its slow going. At lest sewing is a good excuse for listening to podcasts. I also cut out a baby present for some friends that I want to finish up next month.

Eating:I made Thai inspired yellow curry the other night with tofu, cauliflower and sweet potatoes. It wasn't bad. The people in my household I was feeding liked it.

Reading: I started So You Want to be a Robot and Other Stories by A. Merc Rustad because many people whose taste I trust liked it. Currently only two stories in but I like it so far.

Making: I'm sewing a dress for me! I don't sew a lot for myself or for adults so this exciting.

I haven't been posting much hear beyond the occasional short fiction recs. I'd like to get back to posting more. I've gotten into a bit a a perfectionist stint not wanting to post thing just thrown together and feeling extra self-conscious about making spelling mistakes in public. (I have learning disability so I make lots of spelling mistakes -- thank goodness for spellcheck.) So to help with all that I'm starting a new weekly project: Eating, Reading, Making. For this project I'll post a bit about what I've been eating, reading and making during the last week. Some weeks I might write a couple of paragraphs, some weeks just a couple of words. We'll see how it goes.

Eating: Its the time of year I switch form eating cold cereal to oatmeal in the mornings. I eat cold cereal while good fresh fruit is available then oatmeal with golden raisins during the colder months.

Reading: The Cooking Gene by Michael W. Twitty -- this deeply personal history of southern food is really good. Its pretty dark in places because a lot of the history of southern food is also the history of slavery.

Making: I've been making a Halloween costume for my kid. Its a Robot. I am using this dress pattern as base and a making the panels different grays and I've sewn on some solid colored squares to look like buttons. I think it will be cute.

What have you been eating, reading or making recently?
