Bits an bobs is my many short unrelated things make a post category. Comments on any topic welcome, no need to comment on all of them.

*It has been raining since Thanksgiving, and everyone in my household expect me has been sick with a bad cold. The kid stayed home on Monday (which is a work day for me) but was well enough to go to preschool yesterday and today. However this morning she slept in almost and hour and was late to school.

*Many of my internet pals have offered to send holiday cards and I have signed up for a lot of them. I'm excited that I will be getting mail, though I feel a little bad that I'm not sending anyone anything. I am however pleased that I realized I can used some of the space I created by getting rid of books that I'm not friends with to display all my holiday cards. I now have a nice empty shelf waiting.

*I have stared reading Winnie-the-Pooh to my kid! As you might have gathered form my icons, I'm very fond of Winnie-the-Pooh, and its lovely to share something something I love with my kid. Also rereading the stories again, I'm charmed once again by the characters and the the prose.

*I have been meaning to upgrade to a paid account for ages, and I finally did it yesterday since the sale announcement reminded me. I'm not sure if I will actually use any of the paid features, but I'm happy to give DW some money. Maybe I will go upload some more icons? I have been remembering to use different icons for posts and comments slightly more recently and it might be nice to have a few more. Anyone have recommendations for places to find icons?

I rely on the paid account because I passed the number of tags allowed for free accounts a while ago, a fact which I am slightly sheepish about. Tagging every individual author one reads creates a lot of tags!

One of my friends here bought me paid time for six months as a gift a while back, and I got so accustomed to all the extra features that once the six months expired I started paying myself. I still haven't used all the icon slots, but I have started using a lot more. I had so many great icons floating about from back in my Livejournal days, when people used to make icons more regularly, but I'd never been able to use them all.

I wish I had recommendations about where to find good icons, but unfortunately I don't follow people who make them, or who link to others who do.

Your tyro audience knows no dramatic conventions, so I'm sure you will delight. Also a chance to experiment.

I have such happy memories of sitting on the whispering bench in Dupont Circle park while my mother read Winnie the Pooh to me. The dormouse made an indelible impression: And all the day long he'd a wonderful view
Of geraniums (red) and delphiniums (blue).

[community profile] oraclegreen has quite a good range of different types of icons.

I'm very fond of the animated winnie the pooh from I think it was the 90's. In fact I went down a little bit of a youtube spiral a couple of days ago when someone wrote a magnus archives fic referencing heffalumps and woozles so I HAD to find the clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axPPL1FO5mU. It really reminds me of the scene from elephants on parade from dumbo too.

I'm not one of the people who offered to send out holiday cards to more people, but I already send to far more people than will ever send to me, and I don't think they should feel guilty about it. For me it's like presents. I don't exchange presents, I give presents. If someone wants to give me a present, grand, that's very generous of them, but I'm not doing it transactionally. If someone wants to send me a Christmas card, lovely! If they write me an actual personal letter in it I will probably answer the letter, but if it's just a greeting card I will be cheered by the greeting without feeling the least bit obliged to answer, and I want the people who receive my cards to feel the same.

I always feel guilty signing up for cards since I live in seclusion land, Australia (and before that, New Zealand). I love seeing it happen, though.

AND OH, Winnie The Pooh is one of my favourite books, I read it - I thin k - when I was 10 or 11, and it is sooo wonderful. And yes, most charming prose.

Hope everyone's feeling better soon

I've been pondering a paid account, I want more icon space haha but I want to support the product/service that I'm using. Although I need to make sure I'm using my DW enough/get into the posting habit in order to justify spending the money
