Bits and Bobs: Winter Holiday Edition
Dec. 22nd, 2019 02:54 pmBits an bobs is my many short unrelated things make a post category. Comments on any topic welcome, no need to comment on all of them.
*I have been putting the holiday cards I've received on a shelf near my desk and I love looking at them. If you sent one thank you! There's quite a few form people who I know online, and a few from other friends and some form R's friends. E has her own collection elsewhere. So far I have a unicorn, and dog and his boy, tulips, Santa Yoda, a cute cow, and polar bears.
*Yesterday was winter solstice here. I'm so glad the days will be getting longer. We didn't really do anything to celebrate, but we did have discussion of orbital mechanics.
*I'm finding the discourse around the new Star Wars film exhausting. I'm not planning to see it soon and I'm not trying to avoid spoilers, but I've got to the point where I just don't care any more. I have complex feeling about Star Wars anyways. I was very into it as young teen, and it was therefore one of the first media properties that I started applying a feminist critical lens to, so I always associate it will my dawning realization of just how badly women are portrayed in media.
*Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah, our household has four menorahs, the one that the kid made in preschool this year, the one she made last year and two that where wedding gifts. E wants to light all of them. I think its a bit much and would be happy with just one, but four will probably be nice too.
*I have plans to do social things every day between today and Friday and its kind of a lot. Most of them are with family so it really can't be helped. I have tried to set the rest of my goals for the week quite low to try and make sure I take some down time.
* I went and played around with making some more icons. Still just using the very basic tools on my computer. About half of these are based on my photos including some of more of quilts I made. And the other half are A-Yuan the adorable turnip baby from The Untamed.

Date: 2020-01-06 08:01 pm (UTC)The more lights the nicer, at this time of year. I'm not religious but I always love to bring out the xmas lights just to make the dark a bit brighter.
TURNIP BABY! You caught his adorableness well! Such a fierce little look in #18 and #19.
