San Diego Travel Advice?

One of my friends who lives in the UK is going to be in San Diego for a work trip. I'm going to fly down for a day a see and see her in person! So I thought I'd ask here if anyone has advice for things to do in San Diego?

The San Diego Zoo really is world class. It's in Balboa Park, which has many nice gardens and other smaller museums. (The Wild Animal Park is further out of town and also very good, but if I have to choose, I prefer the zoo.) There's a nice beach on Coronodo Island. The coast further north, around La Jolla, is more rugged but very beautiful.
