Fic Writer Meme

forestofgloryI answered the fic writer meme that’s going around. I was a bit hesitant to do this because I’m not writing anything at the moment, and I’m not sure that I even want to write more fic. But it seemed fun so here it is.
1. How many works on AO3?
25, but two of those aren’t fic
2. Total word count on AO3?
142,444
3. Top five fics by kudos?
Can't Stop Thinking of That Far Road (CQL post canon epistory jr quartet) –369
Shadows of the Past (CQL, Sizhu & Jin Ling, Mad about genocide)-- 358
To Live Without Regrets (CQL, Post Canon, LWJ does chief cultivator stuff) – 352
Seven Cups of Tea (CQL post canon epistory wangxian)-- 284
Five Times Shen Wei Fed People and One Time Someone Fed Him (Guardian, what it says on the tin)--264
4. What fandoms do you primarily write for?
So far I’ve only written fic for cdramas, mostly CQL but smattering of other things
5. Do you respond to comments?
I try to
6. Angstiest ending?
I was going to say that all my endings are pretty happy but I remembered “The River Moon is Waiting” actually has an angsty ending!
7. Fic with the happiest ending?
Other than that one fic all my fics have basically one of two endings either “Let's go home” or “let's have another adventure” (or occasionally both) so I think they are all equally happy
8. Do you get hate?
Not, I’ve gotten a few weird comments but thats it.
9. Do you write smut?
Nope
10. Do you write crossovers?
Not really. I’ve written a fusion but not fic with characters from multiple source materials. I’m not opposed or anything, it just hasn’t happened
11. Ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know about
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I know about
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Yes! “Desk Tour: Dr. Jiang Yanli” with Coero. I asked them to beta something and they had an idea for making it better and asked to co-write. I turned out to be really fun to work with them.
14. All time favorite ship?
I don’t really do favorites, and I’m really that ship focused, so I don’t really have one.
15. WiPs you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Coero and I have notes for WWX and WQ desk tours, but they require knowing about stuff other than textiles so I’m not sure that they’ll ever happen. Also at one point I tried to write a Li Shimin/Napoleon Tang tale, and I don’t really think I have the skills for it.
16. Writing strengths?
I’m good at doing voices in epistory/artifact fic. I do lots of research – I don’t know if that’s a strength, but I enjoy it.
17. Writing weaknesses?
Plot. I always need mysteries for my characters to solve and it's so hard to come up with them. (Maybe this is a backwards way of writing) I also think my prose is merely serviceable.
18. Thoughts on mixed language dialogue?
I’m not sure what this means but other people have used this to talk about including pinyin. But biggest thing here is don’t use italics! It’s very othering!
As for my own use of pinyin for the first couple of fics I made up rules (eg all forms of address should be in pinyin) but now I just do what feels right to me which ends up being a bit idiosyncratic.

Date: 2025-04-17 05:21 am (UTC)Yeah fic writing.... I vacillate back and forth between yes I do want to write again and not having the drive and inclination anymore. But I've also found that the fandom I'm currently in is...difficult, so once I'm in another fandom I find my groove again.
