It’s the start of new month time to look back at the goals I had for November and see how I did, and also to set some new Goals for December.
November was really hard month for me. The election was so stressful, and Thanksgiving made me really sad to have some many restriction on the holiday. Also covid case numbers have been going up and that’s meant some increased restrictions and a lot of increased worry
1) Write two posts talking about what I've been observing in the built and natural environment around me
Rain, Rain, Come and Stay
My Cities and Nature TBR
2)Read Five Online SFF shorts (Stretch goal read some of a collection form my physical TBR)
I did this! And the stretch goal! And I read a whole second anthology that I had in ebook! I started doing a thing where I read an SFF short between fics, so that meant I read a lot more short SFF.
3) Write10k8k words of or finish a draft of “Gone to the Other End of the Sky” the Untamed Space AU fic I’ve been writing
So I wrote 6,515 words in the main story, and I wrote and posted a 1,700 word prequel, so taken together that’s 8,215 words. I’m going to count that as a success, even though I really wanted more words in the main story than I managed.
4)Finish the quilt I quilted last month
Completed
5) Thanksgiving
Our holiday was pretty nice under the circumstances. We had a festive meal with my parents on the porch as separate tables. There was lots of good food. I had pie for breakfast twice!
6)Finished one of the two quilt tops that I have stared
Completed
6.5) Stretch Goal: Finish the other quilt top
It turns out that I did not have quite enough of the framing fabric I needed for this. So I have ordered some more.
Well considering how hard a month it was I’m impressed that I completed all the goals! I feel all tried out. December has historically been a stressful month for me, but one of the main stressors, holiday parties, won’t be happening this year. But on the other hand the state of the world continues to be terrible which will probably make up for it in stress levels.
I made big list of all the goals I wanted to consider and it was too many, so this is the trimmed down version.
1) Finish the Pig Quilt
I just set up my machine to quilt this. It needs to be quilted and then bound.
2)Finish the sea quilt top
This is the quilt top that I didn’t have enough fabric for but once the fabric arrives there’s only one more row of blocks to sew on, plus the outside boarder, so it should be not too hard to finish.
3) Hanukkah
(I can never decide what transliteration to use for this holiday. I’m not up on Hebrew transliteration discourse, I just know there seem to be a lot of options to choose form) My goals for this year are simple little the menorah every night and make latkes at least once. Maybe I’ll also eat some other food fried in oil?
4)Christmas
Despite the fact that we are all Jews and or Atheists my family insist on celebrating Christmas. Plans for this year are a bit vague but we will do some kind of gift exchange and most likely make Chinese food for Christmas dinner. (Chinese food on Christmas is Jewish America tradition)
5) Read Five Online SFF shorts (Stretch goal read some of a collection from my TBR)
This went really well last month!
6) Co-write the a Post for Lady Business
Jodie asked me to write something with her. It should be fun!
7) Beta my friend’s Novel Length Fic
8) Write 5k words of or finish a draft of “Gone to the Other End of the Sky” the Untamed Space AU fic I’ve been writing
Current plan is to take a short break from this to focus on goals 6 and 7, but I want to keep writing this and hope to make some progress! (For my future reference current word count is 11,036 words)
I hope that’s not too many goals. You may notice I that I didn’t include “Write two posts talking about what I've been observing in the built and natural environment around me” this month. I’m just feeling a bit overwhelmed and uninspired. So I’m taking a break from the project for a month.
I’m really glad that November is over. I hope you all have a lovely December!
