We had our first proper storm of the rainy season earlier this week. So much rain! Ever since we went back to standard time in early November, the days have felt very short, and the weather has been cool and gray. Between that, my new quilt, and the recently announced increased shelter in place restrictions, its felt like the time to be curled up inside on the sofa with a cup of tea and something to read.

But the first storm is special. Having grown up in the Bay Area, I know how much we depend on the winter rain, and for the storms to bring snow to the Sierras. So every year I wait and hope, please let their be enough rain. Of course one storm can't give us all the rain we need, but now it's stared properly. Now we've gotten some rain at least.

Despite it feeling like inside cosy time, I've been going for a walk everyday. I went out during the storm and got very wet despite my raincoat, but it was good to see the world full of falling water, and to see all the plants that have been drying up getting wet again. I also took my kid for a walk in the local regional park. The lake that was dry all summer has filled up! We saw a turtle walking around on the path which the kid loved!

Rain can be so cathartic. I imagine it washing every clean and refreshing the world and me.

This is lovely. And a welcome way to think of the rain and the turning indoors this time of year requires.
