I just got back form spending part of my spring break in Chicago. R and I drove out there and met up with R's mother.

We have been stayed right next to the lake, and where there is group of several parks which seem like one rather large park, except that there is traffic between the parks. It's quite nice.

Tuesday we went to the Museum of Science and Industry, which is hands on and full of moving parts. They have massive model train set, that was fun to to watch. And they had U-boat with lots of info about it. There was a Farm equipment section that was very ra-ra big Ag, and a place where they where raising baby chickens of a rare breed (black and white javas). This caused me a bit of cognitive distance. However over all I really enjoyed the museum.

Wednesday we went to the aquarium. Robert thought the best part was the exhibit of the Amazon but I was feeling a bit queasy and didn't enjoy that as much as I might have. I did like seeing the dolphins though and also the exhibit on great lakes fish -- which included a very cute river otter.

After the aquarium we had lunch and went to the Field Museum of Natural History. It was really great and also overwhelming. We saw and exhibit on ancient Americans. It was really detailed, and full of information-- I'd get more out of it if I went back again. Next we briefly looked at the hall of plants, which was neat -- they have a model of a tea bush and coco plant. Then we saw a 3-d movie about T-REX. After that we had tea (and I had some cake). Then we saw the Gengus Khan exhibit, and one on Mummys which was cool because it included non-Egyptian mummys, and lots nondestructive imagining. Then we where really tried (or at lest I was ) so we came back to the hotel for a bit. For dinner we had Chicago style deep-dish pizza.

Thursday we went out to breakfast. I had corn meal pancakes with dried cranberries. Yum. Then we walked around in the park of a bit. Then we dropped R's mom off at the sub way and drove home. We stopped briefly in Riverside, IL, which is suburb designed by Fredrick Law Olmsted.

Friday we where both really tried, and didn't get much done.

Now spring break is almost over.
