I'm still struggling to read and watch fiction, but I did have still been consuming some media. Non-fiction seems to be working the best, but I've also manged a novella, a graphic novel, and a large part of a cdrama.

Being Maori in the City: Indigenous Everyday Life in Auckland by Natacha Gagné — For urban planning book club. I’m glad I have a book club to encourage me to read things I otherwise wouldn’t even know about. This was participant anthropology with urban Moari in Auckland that was really interesting and that we had a good discussion about.

Masquerade in Lodi by Lois McMaster Bujold— I thought maybe part of the reason I have been having trouble getting into new non-fanfic media is that I have to learn about new characters and new worlds. But then I remembered this novela series which I had already started and thus knew the characters and the world. A friend advised me to skip the book that was next in the publishing order because it featured a plague, and that was good choice. This was a quick fun read!

Life of Melody by Mari Costa— This graphic novel is a cute m/m fantasy romance featuring purposeful baby acquisition and accidental husband acquisition

Jade Mountains and Cinnabar Pools: The History of Travel Literature in Imperial China \by James M Hargett— Something else I was reading cited this book and it sounded very interesting so I got a copy and read it. It was in fact interesting. It's literary history which is not a genre I know a lot about, but I didn’t have trouble following. Since it was literary history the focus was on analyzing the development of travel literature as a genre. So there was discussion of the style of writing for which I just have to take the author's word since I can’t read the original.

A Girl Like Me episodes 1-29— So [personal profile] dancing_serpent recced this over in [community profile] c_ent and it turned out to be exactly the kind of thing I want to be watching right now. It's a historical cdrama that's a bit silly. There’s lots of plotting going on, but also flirting and some food porn. There’s family dinners, ice skating, and a brief appearance of a cat. There are some bits that have made me wince with second hand embarrassment, but mostly I’m delighted with the characters and their interactions.
