I've mentioned that I'm in an online group watch that watches Chinese media. We watch one live action show and one donghua (aka animated show) and we just finished watching Thousand Autumns and are thinking about what donghua to watch next.

So far we have watched: Scumbag System, Heaven Offical's Blessing, Cinderella Chief, Spiritpack and as mentioned Thousand Autumns.

Things we have on our maybe list: MDSZ, The King’s Avatar, Beryl and Sapphire, Chivalrous Hero Shen Jianxin, Rakshasa Street, and Fox Spirit Matchmaker

So if you have thoughts on any of those or other donghua to rec please share. We like things with queer vibes, wuxia and xianxia, food, and found family but are open to trying all kinds of things.

MDZS donghua is very lovely! I quite enjoy it. It's also super fun just to see another set of adaptational differences for that story.

I like the TKA donghua! I like the novel better but the donghua is way easier to get into! All my feelings on the donghua are, unfortunately, filtered through "I read the novel first and so I'm comparing it to the novel", but I still think it's good fun. :)

A lot of folk I know have been getting into Link Click lately; it sounds really good from what I understand of it. (Modern day with magic, almost certainly queer vibes, what I understand to be some good slice-of-life stuff that leads into plot eventually.) It's on my own "to watch" list, at least!

I love the art in MDSZ--it's so gorgeous. But if a lot of people have seen the Untamed, it's obviously the same story and also they haven't finished the donghua yet. I watched the live action version of the King's Avatar and really loved it. The found family vibes are strong in that one and as someone who knows nothing about professional video gamers, those aspects were very interesting, and the competitions exciting. I would assume the donghua is much the same.
