forestofglory: A-Yuan from The Untamed holding a toy sword (A-Yuan)

Sometimes when I'm drifting off to sleep I think about fic I have no intention of ever writing. Mostly I forget about it by morning. (I used to do this even before I was into fanfic I just thought about it differently)

So last night I was thinking about an Untamed teahouse AU. Somewhere I saw people talking about how it would fun if coffee shop AUs but we kept the same setting rather than moving to a modern coffee shop. So all the sects run teahouses in ancient magical China.

But then I decided that they should serve magical tea. And that each sect should have its own specially. So here are all the tea specialties I came up with.

The Nightless City teahouse: tea that's very good at keeping you awake but controls your mind when you aren't paying attention

Meanwhile The Dafun Mountain Wens have a very run down teahouse but they serve the best healing teas

Cloud Recesses Teahouse: some very good calming tea and also tea that will help you study

The Yet Clean Teahouse: tea that helps you get stronger but makes you angrier

Lotus Pier teahouse: Impossible tea, which bosts your luck and your confidence and luck

Koi Tower: tea to help you get make money and/or tea to help you do well in social situations

The Burial Mounds would be an underground bar. And everyone would be horrified that WWX had given up the true path of tea to serve liquor instead

So what do you think? Do those kinds of teas make sense? What would you add?

Hee. I like it, especially the Burial Mounds going in a completely opposite direction! ;)

I don't know much about teas that are traditional to China, but from my own western upbringing, here's certain flavours that come to mind in terms of the clans:

Gusu Lan - Chamomile, Green tea (calming)
Qinghe Nie - Some kind of strongly flavoured spicy Chai?
Yunmeng Jiang - Ginko biloba and Gensing combo (for energy)
(Dafun Mountain) Wen - Ginger, Herbal tea (healing)
Lanling Jin - Oolong (something fruity/floral)

Imagine the HORROR when WWX comes up with this strange concoction, the "Long Island Iced Tea!"

Everyone: Where is this long island, and why do they insult tea like this?

First: I read this as "Untamed Sea Horse AU" at a quick scrolling glance & was already like "...yes, actually. Merpeople with untamed sea horses? I'm down." Guess that goes as one of the fictions I'll never write (...maybe xD).

I don't know Untamed but love the idea of this. I could go for some Dafun Mountain tea & a helluvalotta Koi Tower tea, end the night at the Burial Mounds for some Tea Drama. Post made me laugh :D

Oh thank you, that's quite cool! Think they may've thrown it on at the pub during open-mic night a time or two. Lots of pretty faces xD

I say "pub" in sad nostalgia really since it's a bar really but the tender (that night at least) is a friend of mine & she puts some pretty cool stuff up. Another friend of mine (one I call Treefriend) requested Dark Crystal once so we watched the whole thing over a few weeks haha.

I actually think a lot about tea, because when I first watched it I could never see the tea warmers (other than in Cloud Recesses) so it always looked like they were just drinking lukewarm tea or plain room temperature water from a teapot. I've since been able to find more tea warmers on rewatches, but I swear there are still scenes with a complete disregard for water temperature.

So now I need to cross reference care about water temperature with magical effect.

Also making a note to never eat or drink anything in Nightless City.

Where I studied undergraduate, almost all of our social gatherings and parties were called Teas. No matter what beverage. So I'm perfectly happy with Demon Subdue Tea being Uncle 4's home fermented fruit wine

I also think that a place that calls itself the Unclean Realm while having fine paper and textile works might appreciate Ya Shi Xiang Dan Cong
Ya Shi Xiang Dan Cong (aka Duck Shit Aroma) is a rare Dan Cong varietal grown in and around Ping Keng Tou village in the Phoenix Mountains outside of Chaozhou in Guangdong Province.

It's called "duck shit aroma" because in the Ping Keng Tou village area the soil has a somewhat yellow brown look to it and is unique to that area. With all teas the soil type is a key element in the tea's taste. Villagers wanting to guard the uniqueness of their tea bushes told outsiders that the color and uniqueness of the soil in their village was due to copious amounts of duck shit and began to call the their Dan Cong "duck shit aroma". True or not it's an entertaining story which reveals why the tea has such a gross name.
