"Let a Thousand Mulans Bloom by Jeannette Ng is an intersting look at Disney's new Mulan adaption and the cultural meanings of Mulan. Also worth reading "Warrior and Weaver: The Many Legends of Mulan" by the same author which reviews a bunch of different Mulan adaptations. I really want to see the 2013 drama where they spend half the time weaving a banner. I love stuff that focuses on domestic labor like that. Sadly my preliminary search didn't come up with a version with English subtitles.

On a completely different note I enjoyed this article about how people in the US use AC

Have you ever read Maxine Hong Kingston's Woman Warrior? I like her version of Mulan a lot.

It's not entirely about Mulan, but that story is interwoven throughout the book. One of the chapters is called "No Name Woman," and it's pretty heavily anthologized in college readers, so you might have read that piece of the book before.
