Bits and Bobs

I finally heard back form my adviser earlier this week. Now aiming for thesis defense in late September.

Went to the farmers market yesterday start to see the 1st signs of Autumn. There are still lots of peaches and tomatoes, but also the 1st apples and winter squash.

R is away at GenCon for the weekend, and tons of folks I'd love to see are at WorldCon. Feeling a bit lonely, at least I have lots kitty snuggles form Ruby. Though she is making a bit harder to get stuff done. She likes to hang out with me while I work -- but sometimes goes after my hands when I type, or walks on the key board. Even if she's doing something else it can be distracting -- specifically when she knocks books off the shelf.

The end is in sight! How are you feeling about the thesis defense?

I do love those first signs of seasonal change. The flowers have started blossoming here.

How did you fare over the weekend? I can understand how it would have been lonely. I had a ton of friends going to WorldCon. Some of us stuck here started a #FakeCon on Twitter, which was good fun. It is not quite the same, though. Did you have work keeping you busy?

At my uni defenses are generally attend by lots of supportive people and in my department there is generally food -- so it shouldn't be too bad. Currently I'm still working on my paper and not on the presentation.

A friend in NZ recently posted a pic of daffodils on facebook.

I spent a lot of the weekend following the WSFS business meeting, and the Hugos. The Hugo ceremony was really good. I feel weird about feeling so emotional about it though. I did also get some work done, and snuggle my kitten.

That sounds rather lovely, if it didn't also include the stress of the defense. I hope it's all going well.

Was there something particular about the Hugo ceremony that touched you?

I was squeeing for most of the broadcast. I enjoyed all the speeches.

The acceptance speeches?

I think a friend of mine was supposed to be part of the ceremony, but I haven't quite sorted it all out.
