Monday I have an evening class, were two or three students are assigned to cook a meal for the class. This week one of the student cooks is from New Orleans so she made a king cake, which is a traditional mardi gras food. It's a sweet bread with Cinnamon sugar on the inside and colored sugar on the outside. The cake is round and braided -- I think to look like a crown. There was a plastic baby in the cake -- and the person who got the baby was special. Anyways the came was quite tasty.
Then Wednesday night I was invited to a pancake feast. (Yes I know it supposed to be Tuesday, but I'm not going to turn down pancakes just because it is the wrong day of the week.) We had three types of pancakes: fat sourdough ones, thin-ish ones that could be rolled up, and proper British thin ones. I mostly had the two thin types with variety of fillings. I started with savory and had sever cheese mushrooms and kale pancakes. Then for sweet I got someone to dig out the lemon juice and sugar, but I also tried a chocolate hazelnut spread, and lemon curd. I think I liked the lemon juice a sugar best though. It tasted of nostalgia.
