Reading Habits

One thing I like about goodreads is that it keeps track of what I read. I don't really feel a need to count how many books I read in any given period, but it is nice to be able to remember what I've been reading lately and tell people about it. People sometimes ask me what I've been reading lately and I'm much better at remembering now.

Keeping track of what I read also gives me a better idea of how diverse my reading lists is. So I know that A Canticle for Leibowitz which I just finished is the 1st novel I read by man this year[1]. One the other hand I've read only one book written by a person of color so far this year.

In general I've not had much time for reading fiction so I've been trying to read only things I think I will enjoy, and not read to things because they are classic or because they are popular. I feel no guilt about rarely reading books by men -- there are plenty of people out there who rarely read books by women. However I'd like to support more authors of color.


[1] Not the 1st book but the 1st novel, I've read some non-fiction by men, and Girl Genius which is comic co-written by a man and woman.
