We left Zion and headed to Salt Lake City. We noticed the landscape getting greener and greener as we went north -- but also a surprising number of dead trees and scrubs. I wonder what caused that? We stopped at Fort Cove, because it happened to be on the way. The fort was more of way-station anyways, for Morons settling the area, though in theory it was also to defend travelers against American Indians. There was a free tour conducted by people in costume -- we found out the whole thing was paid for and run by the Moron church. Anyways seeing it reminded me of how much work women used to have to do. Their was big iron stove that looked like a pain to use, and all the laundry was done by hand -- and the ironing with irons that where heated in the fire. There where quits on all the beds, they had a sewing machine but those quilts where still a lot of work.

In Salt Lake we stayed in a room with a kitchenette so got to cook our dinner which made a nice change. Before dinner we wandered around Temple Square, which I found a bit overwhelming.

From Salt Lake City we head to Jackson Hole just outside of Grand Teton National Park. The way lead through Idaho where we stopped for lunch at a rest stop and shared a shelter with with an older couple on their way to Montana. Next we stopped to change drivers in the Town of Lava Springs, which was full of people in swimsuits tubing in the rivers. We poked our noises in the local museum.

We stopped for an early dinner at a place called the Yankee Doddle Cafe, which had quite a collection of Americana -- flag mugs, and Uncle Sam posters, I don't remember what else, but the places was full top to bottom. Food was only so-so I had another grilled cheese, this time with tomatoes.

We stayed that night in motel 6 that had recently be redone to be rather modern, but I thought this gave the room a creepy sterile feeling. This room didn't have much in it and was one of the more expensive on the trip. I guess location is everything.
