Hi I haven't been here as much as I'd like. We had some damage to the house that caused a major disruption, and even though it's been fixed for a while I'm having trouble getting back to my usual routines and projects.

But that's not what I want to talk about! It's December, and every year for the last several years I've been doing a project called DecRecs in December where I rec on thing everyday for the month and encourage other people to rec stuff too. Recs get posted on Mastodon and this year for the first time BlueSky then every once in a while I round them up and post several days worth here.

So here are the 1st five days of recs!

Day 1
It's the first day of December and that means its time for #decRecs !

This year I want to focus on reccing things I discovered this year, not things I've recced a ton of times before, though I'm sure I'll include some old favorites.

I'm starting out with "This is it" a mulifandom Go /Baduk / Weiqi vid. This so much fun! I've been rewatching this everytime I scroll past it in my ao3 bookmarks and its a delight every time!

I love the variety of source material and the perfect timing!

Day 2
Today for #DecRecs I want to talk about barley tea! I used to get this all the time at my favorite Korean restaurant but I recently realized that I can make it at home! It's so good, cozy, a bit of nutty flavor, very warming in the cold!

Day 3
Ok today's #DecRecs comes with story time!
So for like ten years I did not sew anything for myself. I made clothes for the kid and quilts and nothing I could wear. I don't know why I had such a mental block about sewing for myself -- I guess I made few things that didn't work out and it didn't seem worth the effort.
This year I finally got over the block and sewed myself several garments. I think it helped that I was able to apply some of my kid sewing philosophy to myself. Namely sewing things for everyday wear not special occasions, and making the same pattern as many times as I want

All this is to say that the Liesl + Co. gallery tunic was the first thing I sewed for myself in a long long time and I love it! Comfy, doesn't need ironing, has nice lenght. I've now made two of them and am working on a third

Day 4
things are running a bit late this morning and its almost time for my Chinese lesson so today #DecRecs is my favorite Chinese history paper I read this year "The Song Rediscovery of Chang'an" by Xin Wen
Now some of you know I am a bit of Xin Wen fangirl. I raved about his book The Kings Road. He's very smart, pays attention to details and read so many languages! I also love historical built environments! So this paper was right up my alley!
The paper is about Song dynasty literati studying the history of Tang Chang'an, how they studied it, what they found most interesting about the city and why
I really enjoyed reading about historical history nerds!

Day 5
Today's #DecRecs is A Song for You & I
Kay O'Neill and gentle graphic novel but the author to the Tea Dragon Society. It's a sweet story about friendship and finding who you are. Also the art is amazing I kept stopping to stare at the color gradients!
