Here's the last week or so of DecRecs form me!
20) it's #DecRecs day 20! Today I'm reccing Xenocultivars: Stories of Queer Growth ed Isabela Oliveira and Jed Sabin! I loved this collection of plant themed queer SFF.
I especially appreciated that many of these stories are about inter-generational relationships, and seeing all the differnt ways the authors used the plant theme was a lot of fun!
21) Today is winter solstice in the northern hemisphere! I'm looking forward to longer days. So for today #DecRecs I'm reccing Sing for the Coming of the Longest Night by Katherine Fabian and Iona Datt Sharma! I love this contemporary fantasy novella about metaphors who have to work together to rescue their mutual boyfriend.
I loved the depiction of Judaism in this, with character who doing believe but still find comfort and meaning in ritual. It made me feel very seen!
I also thought the magic system here was well developed and very resonant.
And one of the view point characters is a mom, who has adventures!
I just really adore this story! And it would be an excellent thing to read if you need a bit of comfort on this longest night
22) Today’s #DecRecs is both cozy and Jewish! "Seven Commentaries on an Imperfect Land" by Ruthanna Emrys
https://www.tor.com/2014/08/20/seven-commentaries-on-an-imperfect-land-ruthanna-emrys/
This a very lovely story about community and being who you are
23)For today's #DecRecs I'm reccing Forestspirit, Forestspirit by Bogi Takács
https://clarkesworldmagazine.com/takacs_06_15/
This is one of the first stories by Bogi Takács that I read and it made me fall in love with eir writing (So go check out eir other things!)
I love this story in particular because of its atmospheric descriptions of forests and because its a great robot pal story!
24) Today I'm really struggling physically and mentally with my hand pain. So for #DecRecs I'm reccing "Elder, an Aesthetic" by MarbleGlove
https://archiveofourown.org/works/40189629 (gen, #TheUntamed, 8k words)
This is a very soothing fic about learning to live with disability
25) Today in #DecRecs: It's been a busy day for me so today I'm just doing a quick rec. "The History and Politics of Wuxia" by Jeannette Ng is an excellent essay about exactly what it says on the tin
https://www.tor.com/2021/06/29/the-history-and-politics-of-wuxia/
26)I've been working through the monthly ebooks of Strange Horizons recently, so for today's #DecRecs I'm reccing Wok Hei St
by Guan Un form the South Asian special issue. This was fun non-linear story about a cooking show heist to steal back a stolen wok
http://strangehorizons.com/fiction/wok-hei-st/
27) Time fore more #DecRecs Today I am reccing another Untamed fic "neither bolt nor bar" by Stultiloquentia (Teen, 2k words)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/32725576
This is very gothic yet lovely story about Lan-furen and the Jingshi. The architecture and garden details in this are just so good!
