library algorithm
Jan. 12th, 2011 10:22 amI'm still working on the perfect library algorithm. Ideally I'll never run out of library books, but I also will never have to renew any thing. So far I have run out once and had to renew multiple times since I've started using the library's online ordering service.
There are many problems preventing a simple algorithm from working. There is the variable speed with which I read books. There is the variable speed with which the library prepares the books for pick up. (Also rather too frequently the books are listed as missing -- though I did find a missing book the other day. It was just miss-shelved. Still it is very irritating to order a book and then get an e-mail saying it isn't there with no option to have them tell you if they do find the book.) Then there is my difficultly going to the library without browsing which can throw the whole balance off.
Anyways I've been ordering more books when I'm down to two unread library books, but I think that has been a bit optimistic so I'm going to wait till I only have one unread book before ordering more and see how that works out.
