Happy new year everyone! I hope this year treats you all very well. Since its now a new month it’s time for goals. First let’s look at December’s goals:
1) suggest some panels for conventions
I got my panel ideas for FOGcon just under the wire! And I summited a most of those to Wiscon too. Ideally I would like to summit one more panel idea to Wiscon, the one about cdramas and transcultural fandom, but I’m finding the wording tricky. However I have until Jan 19 to get it in.
2) Post the fic I wrote in November
As mentioned before I completed this goal early in the month: “One Time That Wen Qing Got Lost and Five Times She Was Found”
3) Bind the lap quilt I made for myself
Finished. I’ve been really enjoying having the quilt to snuggle with. There’s some pictures of the completed quilt here
4) Stretch Goal -- finish the quilt top that I'm making for my friend.
I did not finish this but I did make good progress. Here are some pictures of first part of the final section.
5) Read 5 online shorts and start another anthology or collection
Done!
6) Survive Christmas
Well, Christmas happened and I’m still here. I skipped out on one family event go have latkes with my parents, but I also did two other family events. R cooked Chinese food for Christmas dinner, and on Boxing Day we went to my parents’ house in the morning to exchange gifts with them and my siblings. I can’t say that I was very cheerful about the whole thing but I did survive so that counts as success.
7) Do Hanukah
I had a very nice Hanukah. I managed to feed other people latkes twice, and was feed latkes once by my parents as well. Our food processor broke the 1st time we made latkes so most of the potatoes had to be grated by hand, but I enlisted help. We lit our whole collection of menorahs every night, and my mother-in-law gave me and little N a book each on each night. So it was quite a nice holiday.
So, I did pretty well on my December goals! I know it’s the beginning of a new year so I could do some yearly goals but I have found that those don’t work very well for me. So I’m just going to keep up with the monthly goals for now. Here's what I'm planning for January.
1) Update my Resume
The project I was hired for at work is wrapping up this month, and so I will need to look for a new job. Updating my resume will be the first step. This whole process makes me anxious so I’m trying just to take small steps.
2) Post all my 2019 in review posts
I currently have notes for posts on what I wrote, read, and watched in 2019 that I plan to post in January. I might also do a personal year in review post, I’m not sure.
3) Sew a shirt for the kid
I have some cute rabbit fabric and a pattern all picked out!
4) Read or DNF all the 2019 short SFF I have bookmarked
This not currently and huge amount but I expect the list to grow as more rec lists come out. I used to never DNF short fiction but recently if things don’t grab me or seem dark I frequently stop reading them after a few paragraphs. If any of you have recs for short SFF form 2019, especially cosy stories I’d love to hear them.
5) Plan G’s vist!
My grad school friend G will be visiting at the end of the month! I’m super excited to see her, but I need to sit down and plan out what we are going to do in more detail.
6) Take the cat to the vet
It’s time for my cat’s annual checkup so I have to make the appointment and take her in.
That’s kind of a lot but I think if I stay focused I can do it all. How is your January shaping up?

Date: 2020-01-01 11:04 pm (UTC)We go back to work next week; we technically start on the 8th, but we'll go in the 6th and 7th to get classes set up. I'm looking forward to the structure.

I am a deeply boring person. LOL

I want to do this too! I don't think I can do a decade in review at this point, which I've seen some folks do, but I can absolutely do 2019.

Best of luck with getting the job search started! That's always >.< in my experience but small steps are a good approach.
