Media Round Up: Romance and Camping
Mar. 9th, 2022 09:19 amHere's some thoughts on things I've been reading and watching recently!
The Lotus Palace by Jeannie Lin— This is the first in a series of romance novels set in Tang China. (I now know enough to spot minor historical inaccuracies here, but I feel kind of mean for noticing) This was really fun, and I liked all the characters a lot!
The Jade Temptress by Jeannie Lin— The second book in The Lotus Palace series. I liked this one even more than the first book! The romance and the mystery plots were more closely tied together here and that worked really well for me! I’m planning on reading the rest of the series soon!
Qing Luo episodes 1-7— I started this because I was looking for another relatively light-hearted cdrama. It's a historical drama featuring an amesistic doctor, her kid, and the nobleman she’s romantically entangled with. I’m not that into the romance, but the relationship between the prince and the kid is extremely cute. Right now I kind of just want to shake all the adults and yell at them to talk to each other so I don’t know if I’ll keep watching
Beryl and Sapphire episodes 1-6— The latest dounghua my group watch is watching. It’s got a lot of short episodes each featuring a totally different setting but the same two main characters. There’s no explanation of what’s going on, so it is confusing, but each story is easy enough to follow. The first five episodes were very short, around 9 minutes long and all fairly lighthearted. Episode 6 was about 30 minutes long and really grim!
Laid-Back Camp Vol. 7-10 by Afro— This manga about high school girls in Japan camping is so charming! I really enjoy the friendships between the characters, and all the food!
A Marvelous Light by Freya Marske— This edwartian fantasy featuring a m/m romance was very fun. There was interesting magical houses and cool worldbuilding!
