November Goal Wrap Up and December Goals
Dec. 1st, 2019 11:44 amWell I have been very successful at my November goals, though I continue to struggle with the feeling that other people do so much more than I do.
1)Finish the personal essay for Short & Sweet
Submitted! I'll post here when it goes up.
2)Finish the post about Hugos Fandom feels
Done!
3)Write something fun!
Also very successful. I wrote a 10k fic that was very enjoyable. Its currently in beta but hopefully I will get in posted in the next couple of days. I'll post a link here since I think a few of you will be interested.
4)Sewing -- no official goals
Have some more pictures of the quilt I'm working on. I've gotten a bit father than this up but its been raining so I haven't taken any more pictures.
5)Read 5 online shorts and start another anthology or collection
Done, assume you could read two stories out of an anthology then decide that I don't want to read the rest of it as starting an anthology.
6)Host Thanksgiving dinner
This went really well. And wasn't too stressful for me. We ended up with four last minute guests and it was really nice to have more people than just my family, and I think the food came out well. This year I didn't cook anything new and it was nice to just to make things I felt comfortable cooking. I've now cooked a turkey enough times that I feel pretty confident about it.
Now, on to December goals. December is month that I tend to find stressful. Its cold and dark. The as an agnostic Jew the cultural hegemony of Christmas makes me unhappy. There's lots of parties, which are stressful for me. I don't do well in noisy environments but feel obligated to attend various events. (Sorry people who enjoy Christmas. I hope you all have a lovely holiday) And my kid has two week winter break. So this will be another month with a bunch of small goals.
1)Suggest some panels for conventions
In 2020 I'm planning to attend FOGcon and Wiscon both of which crowd source panels. Suggesting panels is a good way to increase the likelihood of there being panels that I want to be on so I should get around to that. I have some vague ideas. Maybe something on agrarianism? Maybe something on Chinese media and transcultural fandom? I don't know if I know enough for that one. If you where going to see me talk on a panel what would you want me to talk about?
2) Post the fic I wrote in November
Like I said this is mostly done, so hopefully in the next few days.
3)Bind the lap quilt I made for myself
I made a quilt for myself, and my mom paid for a professional to do the quilting as birthday present. So now it just needs binding and I can use it. Which will be nice because its cold and dark here now.
4)Stretch Goal -- finish the quilt top that I'm making for my friend
This is the one I've been showing you pictures of the last few months. Its about 2/3 done and so this should be doable if the month doesn't get too out of control. But I'm making it a stretch goal just in case.
5)Read 5 online shorts and start another anthology or collection
Keeping this as its been working the last several months.
6)Survive Christmas
As I said above its kind of a stressful holiday for me, but the rest of my family is into it.
7)Do Hanukah
Hanukah is a nice holiday. You light stuff on fire and eat food that has been fried in oil. I will hopefully feed someone who doesn't live in my house some latkes and enjoy my menorah.
So that's my plan. How is everyone else's December shaping up?
