Mid-Year Reading Goals Check In
Jul. 2nd, 2019 11:04 amIt's time for a mid year reading goals check in!
First a little bit of an overview of my reading so far this year. I’ve 108 books according to Goodreads of which 80 are comics, manga or graphic novels and 6 are novellas.
It's kind of hard to compare this years reading to last years in terms of books read because I’ve been reading so much sequential art, which I tend to read pretty fast compared to prose of similar length.
Some of the best things I read where Sing for the Coming of the Longest Night by Katherine Fabian and Iona Datt Sharma, A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine, and Thornbound by Stephanie Burgis (the sequel to the amazing Snowspelled). This year I also reread the first I’m not quite sure how many volumes of Fruits Basket and then finally finished reading the series!
So for this year I set myself two reading goals:
Goal 1: Read 30 books by non-white authors. stretch goal 40
I have totally blown past this reading 69 books by non-white authors 62 of which are sequential art. That’s because I read a lot of manga -- something that I hadn’t read in while but really enjoyed exploring more. I still have more things I want to try too.
Goal 2: Read 15 non-fiction books
I’m ahead on this goal as well, though not by nearly as much, having read 11 non-fiction books of which 7 are sequential art. I think I’m going to try to make at least one of the remaining books for this goal an academic book. I have a several on TBR self that I would like to get to but I’ve been feeling intimidated by the dense prose.
So I’m set achievable goals and have been achieving them. Go me! Did you set yourself any reading goals for the year? If so how are they going?
