One of my hobbies is sewing. I mostly make things for my kid. One of the difficulties in dressing small children is that everything is very gendered. Since I have time and skills one of the ways I get around that is by sewing things. Plus it means that I get to sew with lots of cute fabric and more it the styles I like than what is often available in stores. Christopher Robin, as drawn by E. H. Shepard, is my toddler fashion icon and my sewing reflects that. Still even in the sewing world there aren’t that many patterns that aren’t very gendered. It seems like there are lot of dress patterns out there. But I thought I’d share a couple of pattern that have become go tos for me.

Lullaby Layette from Oliver + S My kid is too big for this now but the little shirt form this pattern is still my go to baby gift. And when my kid was smaller they worn a lot of these. It's pretty straight forward pattern, and great for showing off cute fabric. I have lot of Oliver + S patterns I think their directions are some of the best and clearest of any I own.

Bookworm Button Up form Blake Slate Patterns This another cute top that’s good for fun fabric. I’ve made a bunch of these with animals and stuff on. I like view B with the lower patch pockets -- they seem to be the most useful for small kids. The directions here are pretty good though I wish they had used fabric with more distinct right and wrong side in the photo illustrations. I particularly like how the PDF is set up though -- everything is very easy to find.

Driftwood Top form Twig + Tale This another basic top. I’ve been making it with the cuffed sleeves because I like the shape. I really like all the pattern’s this company puts out but I find that they are rather a pain to print out -- everything has to be lined up just so and it's a bit of a project. Beside the Driftwood top I’ve also made a wildthings cape -- but the Driftwood is a good everyday top.

If you’d like to see some pictures of my sewing I post them now and again on my Instagram account. (I also post occasional pictures of books and food)
