A Quick Trip to San Diego
May. 6th, 2019 11:19 amI just got back form visiting my friend C in San Diego. She lived in the UK but was in San Diego for a conference. I write to her regularly but hadn't seen her in person in a couple of years.
I flew down Saturday afternoon. My flight was uneventful. I got to the hotel where C was staying and checked in. C was still in transit so I hung out in my hotel room, read a bit and watched some TV. I also did a bit to scouting around the area, and located places to eat and buy groceries.
The next morning I met C for free hotel breakfast. The breakfast was not that great, but it was still a good start to the day. After breakfast we walked to all the local supermarkets. C was excited to check out US grocery stores so we visited all three within walking distance and picked up some supplies for her stay in the hotel. Then we came back to the hotel and had a bit of quite time before lunch. There wasn't a lot in walking distance so we ended up eating at not very exciting chain.
After lunch we did a bit more planning then met up with some one else I know form uni but haven't seen since graduation. He had rented a car and we all went to Torrey Pines Nature reserve to take a walk. It was super pretty -- we walked on the cliffs above the sea. It was lovely clear day and many of the plants where in bloom. After our walk we checked out the visitors center for a bit. Then we went back to Trader Joe's and got some cake. C and I went back to her room and had tea and cake an just chatted.
C had agreed to watch the most recent episode of Game of Thrones with some of her co-workers so around 6 we went over to watch. I Hadn't watched the show -- its too grim for me, but I did read the 1st book when it came out and am aware of people talking about the show. Always it was easier to follow than I feared, but still not my thing and I don't want to watch anymore. After Game of Thrones we went to a nearby pub and hung out until it was time for me to catch my shuttle to the airport. My flight back was fine but it was quite late for me and I didn't get home until 1 in the morning. Still it was worth it. I was very glad to get some in person time with C.
