Joining Things

I decided to make a email account for job hunting since my academic account will be disappearing in a few months. So I went and made gmail account. It's based on my name because that seems to be normal now. But it feels weird. When I first joined things on the internet everyone used pseudonyms and since that seemed to be the normal thing I did too. I guess a lot of time has passed, but still feel uncomfortable sharing my legal name.

Also I finally made a twitter account as Forestofglory. I was spending enough time looking at what people were posting there that I thought I ought to try having an account. I've experimentally followed some people, but I'm still not sure how the whole thing works.

Certainly for a professional email address some combination of a legal name is appropriate. I use mine for my regular email address as well because it's easier.

I know what you mean in relation to using your legal name on the Internet. It still freaks me out to do so from time to time, though I'm getting more used to it

It seems to me that Facebook wrought this change singlehanded.
