Looking Back, Looking Ahead

forestofgloryIt a new Georgian year, 2014. Lots of people are reflecting on 2013 and looking ahead to 2014. I thought I would take some time to do the same.
In 2013:
I finished my course work for my masters degree!
I wrote quite a lot of my thesis.
Went to two academic conferences and presented a poster at one of them.
Took my first forays into Archival research.
Spent some time in Denver.
Voted for the Hugo Awards for the first time.
Read quite a lot of books, many of which were excellent.
Hosted a passover seder by myself for the first time.
Hosted Thanksgiving.
Helped start a departmental brown bag lecture series.
R finished his degree and graduated!
Got a new wonderful doctor.
Visited Seattle for the first time.
Visited Shasta Dam, and Coleman Hatchery.
Attended three weddings.
That's a fair number of firsts, far more than I though when I started writing this.
In 2014 I have bunch of life changes coming up. I'm going to finish writing my thesis, and present at a conference. I will move back to the Bay Area, and find some place to live other than my MIL's basement. (It is nice basement, and I get along well with my MIL, but I want more space.) I will hopefully find a job. I also hope to travel to England and visit my friends there, something I didn't get to do last year.
