R and I went down to Monterrey on Sunday. We left Berkeley in the early afternoon and arrived at our hotel around 4. We relaxed for about an hour, then went for a walk by the ocean. I wanted to get my toes in the ocean while I was there. So I stood just at the edge of the water, where the sand was wet, knowing a wave would come along and wet my feet. I was wearing my waterproof sandals and they had some sand in them . I didn't think much of it at the time. Turns out having shoes full of wet sand is much worse than having shoes full of dry sand. Anyways I was able to get most of the sand out of my shoes and enjoy the rest of the walk.

We got back rested a bit, and I rinsed off my feet. Then we went out to dinner.

In the morning we went out to breakfast. (We considered the hotel's continental breakfast to save time, but it wasn't very nice.) We went to a place called first awakenings, that mostly served breakfast. I had a veggie version of eggs bendict with spinach, tomato, mushrooms and avocados instead of ham. It was really good.

After Breakfast we headed over to the Monterrey Bay Aquarium, which is one of my favorite places ever. I love how the aquarium focuses on the local environment. We got there about half an hour before the feeding in the open oceans tank, so we went and grabbed a seat on the balcony and waited for the show. The open oceans display is great. I love the giant tuna. They are so large and fast and beautiful. So it was great to just watch the tank for a bit before the feeding. They didn't feed the big fish, but it was really fun to see the giant school of sardines come to the top of the tank and eat.

Next we say the new jellies exhibit, which was fun, and looked at the sea horses. We spent some time watching the sea otters -- one of the otters was enjoying showing off and kept being really cute right next to us.

Then we went on the 'feed the fish" tour -- we got to throw some krill into the kelp forest tank, but I wish we could have watched the fish eat the krill for longer.

after the tour we bought sandwiches at a local supermarket deli and ate them out side the museum while watching and silly 15 min musical called "enough stuff" which had great sea creature costumes.

Then we looked at the kelp forest and near shore parts of the aquarium, and finally we headed home.

I got home fairly tried, but it was my night to make dinner so I put together some stry fry -- I cheated and used the pre-cut veggies that where in the house. I wouldn't buy them, but they are kinda handy, though the pre-cut broccoli wasn't in very even sized pieces and so didn't cook very well.
