Jun. 14th, 2012 04:08 pmWednesdays are Cheese board and errands with my mother day.
Yesterday we went by the cake decorating place to buy 12 round pieces of cardboard. All the women working at the store where wearing fun aprons -- my favorite was the one with cupcakes.
Next we went to the nursery and bought vegetable starts for my mother's garden. We mostly got greens and herbs. We also picked up some small California native plants to feature in the wedding.
Next we went to the cheese board. The collective member who helped us was new but gave very flowery descriptions of the cheeses he was having us taste. It was delightful. We only got a few cheese, but we got some cabot clothbond cheddar that was just amazing. It's a nice dry cheddar, with little crunchy bits.
Afterwards there was quite stop and trader joes, for frozen food for my brother, who finished his finals yesterday and is now home for three weeks.
When we got home we cooked, in preparation for my dad's 70th birthday party, which is coming up Sunday. I made pastry cream to go in eclairs and took a break and then made the custard for vanilla bean ice cream. In total I used 24 egg yolks.
