We are finally getting to the end of the process in my studio class. This week we started writing recommendations for the final plan. I've been working hard in studio, but I've gotten behind in my GIS class, and I haven't worked on my thesis for ages.

I've been telling myself I'll get back to in this month, but I still have ton of course work, so I'm not sure I'm going to get anything done until final projects are due in December.

Even if I have a spar hour here and there, I find it hard to work on the thesis in bits and pieces. It is hard to hold the whole thing in my head, and much easier to work work on when I can know that I'll get back to it tomorrow.

I have been making time to do background reading. I read all the really critical stuff already, but but I still have pile of kind of related books. Yesterday I finished one I'm started in the summer, then put down for months. Hopefully this week I'll finish the other one I started -- I only have one chapter left. The book is history that happened before the stuff I'm writing about, so I've mostly been skimming. Possibly I should skim more, but it is hard we things are interesting.

It is now the 3rd day of my new semester, and I'm already feeling a bit overwhelmed. I had my 1st session of the studio class thats required for my degree yesterday and it went two hours longer than scheduled. I was supposed to make dinner last night, but I got home late and was really tried. We ended up getting take out instead.

My other class is GIS -- I'm hoping that it won't be too much work, but I suspect that it will be a lot. At least it will be a different kind of work -- lots of analysis and not much writing. I just got back from the lab which went ok -- it was mostly me following a very detailed tutorial -- but I learned how to do things I didn't know how to do.

I'm also continuing to work on my thesis. I'm finally meeting with my adviser to discus it tomorrow work out the timeline. I'm looking forward to being on firmer ground about it.

It has been really really hot and humid here since we got back. Our apartment only has window air conditioning unit, and it just can't keep up. Which makes it a bit harder to get things done -- we both feel melted.

This has not been the best 1st week of classes so far. I want to be bright eyed and bushy-tailed, but I'm mostly been tried and not quite as focused as I'd like. Plus I've been having a lot of migraines.

I'm taking three classes this semester: A food and planning class, a stats class, and Watershed Management. Food and Planning is a seminar which meets once a week on Monday evenings. My adviser and a professor I like are co-teaching it. It should be a good class. I'm not really sure yet what is going on in Stats class as we had sub for the 1st day -- we should be learning some stats though. Watershed management seems like it is going to be really fun. There are lot of field trips to attend, which is very exciting. I'm also taking 3 research credits for my thesis.

I've just started The Highest Frontier by Joan Slonczewski. I'm only about 5 pages in but I'm excited. Joan Slonczewski is a biologist which means she gets the science that is important to me right. I totally loved A Door Into Ocean by the same author(it's got planet of purple pacifist women with ecotech -- what's not to love) so I've been meaning to read the sequels when I can track them down. However this just came out and my mother bought me a shinny new hard back copy.

I've been very busy this last week. There was a long book to read in my History of American Agriculture Seminar and a test to grade in the class I'm TAing.

This week is going to feature lots of bread. I made sandwich bread today and I'm out of challah so planning to make some this Friday afternoon.
